Senior Engineer

The Senior Engineer will join Calpsan Systems in Newport News, VA.  Calspan Systems provides expertise in wind tunnel test equipment and services including the design and fabrication of wind tunnel models, model positioning systems, rotor test stands and wind tunnel blades. We are looking for a motivated Senior Engineer to join our team and continue our rich tradition of providing quick turn service for prototype systems and components.

Description for Senior Engineer:
  • Designs & modifies prototype aerospace hardware including rotor blades, test stands, suppressor systems, gas turbine engine test rigs and marine subsystems
  • Defines engineering requirements (including materials, interfaces, fits, tolerances, treatments, instrumentation & assembly procedures)
  • Perform the duties of technical lead on assigned projects
  • Support the business development efforts of the company by interacting with clients before, during, and after the contract award
  • Interact and coordinate with team members of varying disciplines in a professional and efficient manner. Mentor mechanical engineering staff to advance their skill-sets and practices.
 

Preferred Education / Experience for Senior Engineer:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline;
  • 5+ years of related discipline; or
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above
 
 
Preferred Knowledge / Ability for Senior Engineer:
  • Experience with designing whirl towers, test stands, rotorcraft hardware and testing prototype systems
  • Knowledge of composite systems and aerospace hardware development
  • Experience with performance loads, vibration, stability, flight dynamics
  • Ability to travel (domestic and abroad)
  • Previous exposure to machining and fabrication processes, interaction with fabrication personnel, and familiarity with manufacturing techniques are required
