Calspan, in partnership with and in support of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) mission to reduce motor vehicle crashes, is looking for a Sample Coordinator.  Utilizing NHTSA’s Crash Investigation Sampling System (CISS), the Sample Coordinator is responsible for validating randomly selected police reports involving motor vehicle crashes and injuries.  The information gathered and analyzed is used to identify existing and emerging highway safety problems; acquire detailed crash performance data for passenger vehicles regarding vehicle safety systems and designs; learn more about crash-related events and the relationship between the type and severity of a crash; and assess the effectiveness of motor vehicle standards and highway safety programs.

  • Responsible for the monitoring and quality control of CISS sampling and for certifying the Crash Technicians and their Assistants to the 95% requirement of our customer.  Adhere to daily and weekly schedules to meet predetermined deadlines.
  • Develop training tools and quality control processes to ensure the continuous verification of the Technicians and their Assistant’s sample accuracy and timeliness.  Strive to create efficiencies in the processes.
  • Adhere to the sampling rules established by the customer.  As challenges are identified, use them as opportunities to develop efficiencies in the sampling process
  • Seek opportunities to learn from your experienced team mate. Use her experience and mentoring abilities to grasp concepts and develop training protocols that will be applied as the CISS program and your roles further develops.
Preferred Education / Experience:
  • Associates degree in related discipline
  • 1+ years in related discipline or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above
Preferred Knowledge / Ability:
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret and translate data
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to multi-task and take initiative to ensure completion of daily assignments
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Good time management skills
  • Travel required to attend training and provide project support as needed
  • Understanding of various vehicle systems and anatomy / injury terminology.
