The Principal Electrical Engineer will provide guidance and direction within Calspan’s Automotive Crash Operations group.  A customer centric, close knit, hardworking, accountable and responsible team who leverage their strong technical aptitude and experience to provide world-class automotive crash test services. Working in Calspan’s new, fully enclosed automotive crash test facility with its MESSRING propulsion system and micro track, the ideal candidate will be a self-starter working in a “hands on” position.​

Summary:  Provides guidance and expertise in electrical engineering to design electrical equipment and systems and to investigate, evaluate and develop new applications for existing equipment and systems.  Mentors Electrical Engineers and Technicians.
  • Support execution of testing operations in accurate and efficient manner.Define project requirements, including deliverables and constraints, designing and developing a solution and conducting necessary activities to confirm and validate solution.
  • Lead or assist on special projects to determine, develop and implement new technologies for future growth in capabilities and offerings.
  • Develop new applications and test procedures;ensure conformity to standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements; and that they are under configuration control.
  • Maintain engineering data and/or drawings, which includes layouts, three-dimensional models, and structural analyses.Ensure designs and data/analyses/drawings are accurate, integrated, clearly communicated and complete.
  • Review and prepare reports, proposals, and presentations analyzing customer technical requirements and recommend solutions beneficial to the customer.
  • Provide technical guidance to personnel involved in developing design approaches and executing test procedures.Review and correct drawings to ensure proper engineering techniques. Support day-to-day operations by directing electrical pre-test and test efforts.
Preferred Education / Experience:
  • Bachelors in Engineering or related discipline
  • 7+ years in Engineering or related discipline or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above
Preferred Knowledge / Ability:
  • Electrical/Electronic engineering methods
  • Perform complex analog and digital circuit design
  • Read and interpret engineering plans and specifications
  • Develop and present proposals
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage  abstract and concrete variables
  • Microsoft Office
