The Software Engineer will provide guidance and direction within Calspan’s Crash Test Operations group.  A customer centric, close knit, hardworking, accountable and responsible team who leverage their strong technical aptitude and experience to provide world-class automotive crash test services. Working in Calspan’s new, fully enclosed automotive crash test facility with its MESSRING propulsion system and micro track, the ideal candidate will be a self-starter working in a “hands on” position.​

Software Engineer Summary:  Performs programming in support of research, design, test and interface development of equipment and systems.
  • Support execution of testing operations in accurate and efficient manner.Design, develop and maintain embedded systems in testing environments as a member of a software team.
  • Maintain, update, modify and troubleshoot software issues in support of test operations. Document software approaches and solutions.
  • Support development of new applications and test procedures.Evaluate new technologies for implementation.Conduct research that tests and analyzes feasibility, design, operation and performance of systems.
  • Develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation.Integrate embedded software on embedded hardware.
Preferred Education / Experience:
  • Bachelors in Electrical or Computer Engineering/Computer Science or related discipline
  • 3+ years in software development or related discipline or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above 
Preferred Knowledge / Ability:
  • Computer Science/Software engineering method
  • Software development processes including configuration management
  • Strong programming skills in Visual Basic Applications, Object Oriented Programming
  • Develop real time embedded systems and processing routines using NI Diadem and Visual Basic Scripts
  • Proficient in Databases (MS Access, ODBC) , SQL Server, SQL Query, .Net, Git / SVN
  • Read and interpret engineering plans and specifications based on varying customer needs
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage  abstract and concrete variables
