Calspan has been in the business of supporting the U.S. government with unbiased crash investigations and research since the 1970s. Governmental statistical analysis programs such as the National Automotive Sampling Survey (NASS) and many other special studies rely on Calspan’s dedicated and seasoned staff to produce timely and accurate real-world crash research.

Senior Investigator Summary:  Conducts high-profile crash investigations, including interacting with sponsor representatives, and prepares detailed technical reports of these investigations.
  • Conduct high-profile crash investigations by reconstructing complex crashes. Provide mechanical failure analysis and determine occupant kinematics and injury sources. Interview and obtain cooperation from applicable parties including legal representatives, public officials, and crash victims.
  • Prepare detailed reports, including techncial findings and conclusions, which meet or exceed the requirements and expectations of the sponsor. Complete reports within the program time requirements.
  • Provide support to staff in areas of crash reconstruction, interpreting crash site physical evidence, EDR imaging and interpretation, and injury sourcing.
  • Assist and mentor less experienced staff. 
Preferred Education / Experience:
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Stuructural Engineering
  • 5+ years in related discipline or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above
Preferred Knowledge / Ability:
  • Strong understanding of forensic engineering and/or collision reconstruction
  • Advanced EDR interpretation
  • Ability to reconstruct complex crashes and kinematics
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient computer aided drawing skills   
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to travel significantly (50%) with minimal notice
  • Must be able to obtain DOT credentials
