Calspan, a technology company with a strong heritage in aerospace and transportation research and development, is looking for an experienced Designer  to support our Flight Research Group in Niagara Falls, NY. The Designer develops initial design concepts and 3D CAD model representations for mechanical parts and assemblies.

Due to the security requirements for this position, US Citizenship is required.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Develops initial design concepts and 3D CAD model representations for mechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Complete assigned tasks within budget
  • Uses CAD system to develop initial 3D solid model of mechanical components and assemblies; Provides CAD models in appropriate form for use by the analysis team at various stages of the design development; creates 3D surface models working from aerodynamic profiles
  • Works closely with Engineering and Program Management personnel to refine design, solve problems, explore alternate approaches, etc.
  • Interacts with Fabrication personnel to ensure manufacturability of design and with Programming personnel to ensure content of solid model for programming activities
  • Identifies/selects standard components for use in the design
  • Performs initial material selection and sizing of component   
Preferred Education / Experience for Designer:
  • Associates Degree;
  • 3+ years of related discipline; or
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above
Preferred Knowledge / Ability of Designer: 
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work on multiple projects, and prioritize workload
  • Working knowledge of applicable CAD systems (Unigraphics preferred)
  • Understanding of GD&T
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • US citizenship required; ability to obtain a security clearance
