Manager, Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) Maintenance

Summary:  Manages the UAV maintenance and technicians to ensure flight safety and on-time operations. 

Responsibilities:
  • Manage with the intent to motivate, train and develop.  Manage administrative responsibilities (scheduling, timekeeping, budgeting). Provide timely, constructive feedback regarding work and performance.  Manage non-performing employees in accordance with company policy.  Manage high potential employees to career succession and growth opportunities. 
  • Manage and perform the service, repair, and overall maintenance of UAV aircraft, support equipment, spares, trailers and vehicles.  Ensure aircrafts are safe for flight and compliance to all maintenance requirements.
  • Assist UAV pilot in the launch, operation and recovery during UAV operations.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.  Develop solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation.  Ensure solutions are consistent with business group and organizational objectives.
  • Participate in UAV missions in the field, including assembling and disassembling the UAV, catapult, tracking antenna, and ground station.  Act as FAR Part 107 visual observer for UAV missions.
Preferred Education / Experience:
  • Associates degree in a technical discipline;
  • 5+ years progressive experience and responsibility as part of a avaiation maintenance organization;
  • Pprevious management experience or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above.
 Preferred Knowledge / Ability: 
  • Experience with project management and FAA regulations preferred.
  • FAA A&P/IA License preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience in commercial UAV flight operations and maintenance of UAV systems.
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations pertaining to commercial UAV flight operations.
  • Familiarity with aviation-style maintenance procedures, publications, and operations.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in remote locations such as forests and fields, with appropriate dress for wet ground and seasonal weather.
  • Must be able to move and handle equipment weighing up to 250 lbs with appropriate handling equipment and assistance.
